AGRA (1)

On 23rd January 2023 Checked-in to Courtyard Marriott, a premium Five-Star hotel, in Agra.  Marriott is world-known Hotel chain.  I need not describe here.

Been to AGRA FORT.

symbol of power, strength and resilience, as it stands today in full glory.

A historical 15th century Fort.  This semicircular Mughal architectural Fort is on  94 acre land situated on the West Bank of Yamuna river.  Its walls are 70 feet high and its chord lies parallel to Yamuna.  Was rebuilt with bricks in the inner core with red sandstone on external surfaces.  Initially there were 500 Mughal buildings were inside the Fort but now only thirty.

Four gates are on 4-sides.  One Gate (Khizri) opening on to the river.  Two Gates are notable, the western side grandest Delhi Gate & Amar Singh (Lahore) Gate.  The monumental Delhi Gate is under Indian Military control and so the public can use only the Amar Singh Gate.

Mughal Emperor Hümayun was crowned here and later renovated by Akbar the Great.  This Fort served as the main residence of the Rulers of the Mughal Dynasty till the capital was shifted to Delhi in 1638.  From 1947, the Indian Government is maintaining it.

Inside the Fort are Diwan-i-Am or the Hall of Public Audience; (This hall with numerous pillars is said to be erected by Shah Jahan in the year 1628)  Royal Pavilions abounding in elegant mosques including Nagina Masjid and Mina Masjid, palaces like Macchi Bhavan, Khas Mahal, Shish Mahal and Shah Jahani Mahal and the Zenana Mina Bazaar.

The intricate carvings and the pure marbles that are used in its making are very attractive and appealing.  Besides, the breathtaking views of the Yamuna River and Taj Mahal from the balconies of the pavilions will leave you absolutely mesmerised.
