MOUNT FUJI … "Fuji-san"

A Spiritual Site, Cultural Icon and Geographical Wonder.

The tallest mountain of Japan and one of Japan’s Three Holy Mountains.

Located near Tokyo on Honshu island, standing at 12,388 ft, it’s an active volcano with an exceptionally symmetrical graceful conical form that is covered in snow.

It is considered a sacred symbol of Japan and has been a site for pilgrimage and artistic inspiration for centuries. Climbing Mount Fuji has been a religious practice.

The mountain is surrounded by five lakes (Fuji Five Lakes), including Lake Kawaguchi, which offer beautiful reflections of Fuji-san.

Last erupting in 1707, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a popular tourist attraction, drawing many hikers during the summer climbing season.

Over the centuries, the Japanese have forged a spiritual bond with the mountain. Their long-standing tradition of mountain worship has ensured this mountain remains revered and respected as a site of spiritual importance.

The numerous shrines at the base of the mountain are a testament to Mt. Fuji's spiritual and historical significance.

Artists depict the mountain from various vantage points and settings, giving people from around the world a glimpse into the region and its ways of life.

A Website describes …

“Formed approximately 100,000 years ago, repeated volcanic eruptions gradually transformed Mt. Fuji into the largest mountain in Japan, at 3,776 meters tall. The last eruption in 1707 lasted for 16 days, with volcanic ash reaching as far as Tokyo. Volcanic activity is also responsible for creating Hoeizan (one of Fuji's secondary peaks), the five lakes at the mountain's base, and numerous caves near Aokigahara Forest. The area is also blessed with many mineral-rich hot springs, making the region a paradise for both outdoor recreation and relaxation.”

Our poses ..
The stream from Mount Fuji.
Water considered as Holy Water.

The water is naturally filtered and purified as it passes over and through these geological formations, picking up minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium, as well as traces of vanadium and zinc—all which support everyday health requirements

The water flowing from the dragon mouth is seen as a gift of pure water from the sacred mountain. People drink water from dragon-mouth-shaped fountains. Some believe drinking the water can enhance longevity.  The area is considered a "power spot," a place where people can feel a mystical atmosphere and connect with the natural and spiritual energies of Mount Fuji.
