The Alpine Ascent: Zurich to the Top of Titlis
Our day was a perfect cross-section of Switzerland, transitioning from the urban center of Zurich, through the picturesque lake region, and culminating on a majestic glacier.
The Scenic Rail Journey (Zurich to Lucerne to Engelberg)
Our journey began at Zurich HB the Main Station, where we boarded the train that carried us deep into the heart of Central Switzerland.
The trip typically took around 2 hours that involved scenic transfer in the beautiful city of Lucerne (Luzern).
The final leg from Lucerne to Engelberg, on the Luzern-Engelberg Express (Zentralbahn), is a highlight in itself.
This train journey descended into the valley of the Engelberger Aa river, passed through charming Swiss villages, lush green meadows (even in October), and dramatic, forested mountain slopes. We had watched the scenery shift from the open plains around Lake Lucerne to the towering, imposing peaks that guard the end of the valley in Engelberg.
We arrived at the idyllic mountain village of Engelberg (1,050m / 3,445 ft).
